Course Description:
Auditions take place in the Spring prior to the new school year. Students are required to participate in each mainstage production. Students enrolled in this course will continue their theatrical study in either Performance or Technical Theatre for their own enrichment and will explore the relevance of theater-related activities to everyday living. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening the individual's self-concept through the study of various acting techniques, technical theater, play production, voice, acting, performance, movement, and drama as literature. Although encompassing the same performance expectations as the regular theater production course, this class has an added emphasis on research and individualized study, leading to the development of comprehensive individual theatrical skills.
Elements of the Course:
Advanced Skills
Students will continue to hone their skills in Playwriting, Directing, Vocal and Physical Warm Ups, Character Analysis, Script Analysis, and Theatre Technology Integration.
Production Work:
Student will be able to identify and explain specific technical elements needed for productions such as Theatre Safety and Stagecraft, Publicity, Costumes, Makeup, and Properties.
Historical and Cultural Relevance
Students will be able to recognize and explain the influence Theatre Etiquette, Critical Evaluation, Theatre History, Play Reading and and Analysis.
Performance
Students will advance their skills in Theatrical Movement, Voice Technique, Monologues, Duet Scenes, Musical Theatre, and Auditioning.
Students will understand the use of resumes and portfolios. Students will create and develop their own resume and portfolio throughout the course. They will connect musical theatre skills and experiences to higher education and careers.
